General dentistry
Routine dental examination - a 12-point dental health check, to assess the overall health of your mouth, helping you to reduce the risk of future problems and treatment. May include small radiographs, or large panoral radiograph (a full mouth x-ray) taken when required for diagnosis.
Fillings - amalgam (silver restorations) are safely removed when necessary and replaced with either a new amalgam or white (composite) filling.
Extraction - regular extraction of teeth is carried out in-surgery under local anaesthetic (numbing with injection). Difficult or multiple extraction may require intravenous sedation, or in exceptional cases, referral for general anaesthetic to local hospital.
Intravenous sedation - injection of a mild sedative drug to relax and reduce anxiety during treatment. Mr McKeon has been a member of the society for the advancement of anaesthesia in dentistry since 1971.
Cleaning - routine cleaning is provided as part of general dental care by your dentist, with referral where necessary, to one of our qualified dental hygienists. (See details of cleaning and prevention).
Dentures - we provide all types of dentures from partial to full dentures, metal framework and plastic. We use excellent registered laboratories, ensuring quality workmanship and minimal waiting time between appointments. Repairs and emergency replacement of lost or broken dentures can be organised quickly and conveniently.
Crowns, bridges and veneers - we use the latest impression techniques to ensure comfort to our patients. Our 'in-house Cad/Cam (CEREC®) system, avoids the need for impressions completely.
Endodontics - root canal treatment, everyone's least favourite treatment is undertaken using the latest equipment and techniques to ensure patient comfort, satisfactory results and a successful outcome.
Specialist treatment
Dental implants - using Branêmark Implant System - A titanium screw-shaped attachment that is inserted into the bone to fill a space and replace a missing tooth root. After an initial period of integration the screw is uncovered and a replacement tooth is secured. This can look and feel like a natural tooth. The benefits of implants are that they are stable and secure, non-invasive and versatile. They help maintain the surrounding bone and can be a more comfortable alternative to dentures or bridgework. Multiple implants can also be a support to dentures or bridges.
CEREC® the latest single visit reconstruction. Using an optical 3D imaging system that scans and relays using CAD/CAM to a mill for production of a ceramic restoration. Either for fillings, crowns or veneers. Unquestionably the most revolutionary way to restore teeth today.
Orthodontics - available to both children and adults, we use several different methods of straightening teeth. Using either mini-fixed metal or ceramic brackets and wires, to our latest removal custom-made invisible trays. (Invisalign®).
Facial aesthetics - with appearance becoming more and more important to us we can now offer you facial treatments known as Restylane (line infill) and Dysport (frown reduction) under strict clinical conditions by a qualified dentist. The advantage of this of course is that treatment can be carried out whilst numb, making it more comfortable for you.
ZOOM!2®- a scientifically advanced in-surgery tooth whitening procedure that involves a one hour session where a gel is applied to the teeth and is activated by a specially designed light. The teeth can be brightened up to ten shades giving you a more youthful and confident appearance. The immediate results make it a perfect choice for busy individuals.
Home tooth whitening available - impressions are taken of your teeth from which custom trays are made. These are given to you to take home, along with a whitening gel. You are in control of gaining the results you want. Further gel can be purchased from the practice if necessary.
Air abrasion - a high pressure powder is aimed at the tooth surface. This prepares the cavity for filling, eliminating the need to use the drill. Very effective when treating children and nervous patients.
Cleaning and prevention
Hygienist treatment - hygienists are specially trained to provide assessment of oral health and treatment of gum disorders to include instruction and demonstration of the latest techniques in brushing and mouth care. Using either hand scalers or USS (ultrasonic scaler) a hygienist will remove any build up of hard deposits (calculus) and stain and then polish your teeth.
